Tanya is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Mindfulness Instructor for the Mindful Living Group. Tanya earned her BA in Psychology from the University of Texas and completed her Masters Degree in counseling from St. Edwards University. She completed her internship at Austin Mindfulness Center in Austin, Texas where she was trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and meditation instruction. Tanya provides individual and group therapy services for a variety of mental health needs including depression, anxiety, trauma, anger management, transition difficulties, and parenting challenges. She is also certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and is a certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator. As a Positive Discipline Parent Educator, Tanya is passionate about teaching the principles of parenting with presence, compassion, and kind but firm boundaries to foster resilient and capable parents to influence the next generation in a positive way.
Her approach to therapy is hands on and experiential using evidence-based therapies. A therapy session with Tanya will typically involve the experiential practice of a guided mindfulness meditation, clarifying your goals and values, and “homework” to help create new habits. Each client will have the opportunity to co-create their treatment plan to fit their individual needs.
Tanya has been practicing yoga and mindfulness as a way of life since 2005. She is committed to a path of holistic health and wellness and is passionate about sharing the teachings of mindfulness with others. She is dedicated to her own mindfulness practices in order to be more present with her clients. She also understands the importance of the therapeutic relationship and aims to provide a safe haven for clients to discover their own greatness.
Tanya is fortunate to be part of a large Maui Ohana and when not in session, you will find her reading, meditating in public settings, enjoying her keiki, and floating on the ocean.
